My First Opinel Red - The Round-Ended Children's Knife
My first Opinel is the ideal companion for walks in the forest, building huts, doing odd jobs or simply having a picnic. The rounded tip is ideal for use by children (7 years old) and as a spreading knife.
My first Opinel is the knife for little adventurers, little handymen, little gourmets! It is perfect for learning how to make toast after a mountain getaway, to carve sticks or to start a tree house. Nevertheless, it remains a knife that really cuts.
Specially designed for children, it is equipped with an 8cm blade with a round tip and a white varnished handle to protect it from dirt. My first Opinel also has a safety ring to block the blade in open or closed position.
Made from Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel. It is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance.
The classic Opinel blade has adopted a Yatagan shape. The Yatagan shape is inspired by a traditional Turkish saber, the toe up. The blade is ground to an exclusive convex profile that ensures the strength of the blade and allows efficient regrinding.
Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. From France, our beech is hard, durable and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is characterized by the presence of numerous small dark dashes.
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from the N° 06. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport).
Joseph Opinel began making knives in 1890 in Savoie, France as a simple working man's or peasant's knife.
By 1909, Opinel had registered his first trademark for the Opinel knife, choosing the main couronnée ("crowned hand") as his emblem. A few years later Opinel annual sales were in the hundreds of thousands, and by the start of World War II as many as 20 million knives had been sold.
